UKWA Welcomes Funding for Warehouse Apprenticeship

UKWA Welcomes Funding for Warehouse Apprenticeship

The UK Warehousing Association (UKWA) has welcomed news that the Funding Band for Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Apprenticeships has been revised upwards to Band 8 (up to £5,000).

The revision, confirmed by Secretary of State for Education Gillian Keegan, represents a positive step forward for the industry, according to UKWA CEO Clare Bottle.

“Our sector has long battled with the challenges of labour and skills shortages, which have been compounded by post-Brexit immigration caps and the failure of the Government to include warehousing on the Shortage Occupations List,” she said. “Furthermore, the options for further education or training for would-be warehouse workers are still few and far between. The Warehouse Operative Apprenticeship offers a vital route for young people to join a sector that provides social mobility and the opportunity to build a rewarding career.”

Clare adds, “I would like to thank Jim French, Managing Director of Road to Logistics and Co-Chair Trailblazer Group Transport and Logistics, for his sterling support in achieving this increase in funding, which will certainly encourage more employers to use the Apprenticeship to address the skills gap and attract more young people into our industry.”
