New Bridge at Brocklesby Junction Now in Use

New Bridge at Brocklesby Junction Now in Use

A new section of road, part of an £88.4 million project to improve access to the Port of Immingham,  is now open, following closures over the weekend for resurfacing, to join up the new section of work.

The A180 eastbound exit slip road onto the A160 at Brocklesby interchange, and the A160 eastbound and westbound carriageways between Brocklesby and the new Habrough roundabout were closed from 8pm on Friday 9th September until 6am on Monday 12th September.

The improvements are part of the Highways England project which sees a 3 mile section of the A160 between the A180 and the Port of Immingham upgraded to dual carriageway along its entire length.

The closures were to enable Highways England contractors to integrate the upgraded junction into the existing road, completing the project.

Ben Ridgeon, Project Manager at Highways England, said, “This full weekend closure allows us to complete resurfacing work on the new bridge at Brocklesby so it can be opened to traffic along with the new A180 westbound entry slip road.

“We are advising drivers to allow extra time for their journeys during the closure, and to take care and pay attention to the new road layout on Monday 12 September.

“Once complete, the Port of Immingham scheme, will improve access to the port and surrounding area. Traffic congestion will also be reduced, journey times will become more reliable, and safety will be improved for road users and the local community.”

Improvements are also being made to other junctions along the route as part of the scheme, including a new roundabout at the junction with the A180, a new bridge over the A160 on Town Street, and a new road under the railway line by the port.

The Port of Immingham is the UK’s largest port by tonnage, handling up to 55 million tonnes of goods every year, and supports a huge range of industries including food processing, chemical and oil refineries, processing plants and the renewable energy sectors.
