SMPE Works Towards New ISO Accreditation

One of the UK’s largest independently owned automotive parts manufacturers and suppliers, Standard Motor Products Europe (SMPE), has announced that it is working towards its ISO 14001:2015 accreditation, reflecting the company’s commitment to tier 1 customers and to improving its environmental performance.

The standard defines the requirements for an environmental management system that an organisation must adhere to in order to manage its environmental responsibilities in a systematic manner that contributes to greener sustainability, covering criteria including recycling, lower carbon footprint and waste reduction. The 2015 updated accreditation also mentions requirements related to the context of the organisation, leadership, performance evaluation, auditing, environmental management, risk and opportunities and life-cycle perspective.

“We take a very serious approach towards the impact of the company’s activities on the environment, and we’re currently focused on working hard towards achieving our high environmental and quality goals,” said Richard Morley, SMPE Commercial Director.

“We want to ensure our customers can be confident that the organisation not only complies with environmental legislation and best practice but, supported by documented processes and activities, strives to ensure a continual improvement in their performance,” he continued.

The company wishes to transition from the current ISO 9001:2015 QMS certification it holds, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to minimising the impact of its operations upon the environment.

Founded in 1968, Standard Motor Products Europe has built one of the strongest European aftermarket portfolios available through its no compromise attitude to quality and performance, with a focus on four main products areas of ignition, engine management, switches & sensors and fuelling. It delivers its aftermarket programme via a range of trusted brands including Intermotor, Fuel Parts, High Volt, Kerr Nelson, Blue Streak and Lemark.

Now celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018, SMPE operates from its facilities based in Annesley, Nottinghamshire, which has received the ISO 9001:2015 accreditation.
