Gasrec Wins Low Carbon Fuel Initiative Of The Year
Gasrec, Europe’s leading supplier of liquefied gas fuel for transport, was awarded the coveted Low Carbon Fuel Initiative of the Year award at the recent Low Carbon Champions Awards in Milton Keynes in front of 300 industry peers and low carbon transport stakeholders.
The judges said: “Gasrec’s 85% growth in biomethane sales over 18 months is highly impressive. They have a scale of operation that is of national significance in helping to decarbonise the freight sector in the UK. They have brought together a highly influential industry group to disseminate results and galvanise action. Their efforts on driver and safety training also impressed the judges.”
Gasrec pioneered Bio-LNG (liquefied landfill biomethane and LNG) for transport fuel and supplies more than 60% of gas powered HGVs on UK roads from 11 UK refuelling locations. In the last year it launched the UK’s first two open access Bio-LNG stations as part of its planned strategic network development.
The awards – now in their fourth year – are an initiative of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP); a public-private partnership that exists to accelerate a sustainable shift to lower carbon vehicles and fuels and create opportunities for UK businesses. Nearly 200 organisations are engaged from diverse backgrounds including government, automotive and fuel supply chains, vehicle users, academics, environment groups and wider society.
LowCVP managing director, Andy Eastlake, said: “These awards recognise best practice, and outstanding leadership and innovation in cutting carbon from vehicles and fuels, as well as through other means. This year we had more, and higher quality, entries than ever before showing just how far and fast the whole low carbon road transport industry is now progressing, and how many individual stakeholders are contributing to the change.”
The judging panel comprised 22 senior executives from across the range of organisations with a stake in the low carbon road transport agenda. Gasrec’s award was received by James Westcott, the company’s business development director.
Among the other winners were The BMW Group, which was awarded the ‘Grand Prix’ award for Outstanding Achievement in Low Carbon Transport. Professor Dame Julia King, author of ‘King Review of Low Carbon Cars’ was recognised with a special award for outstanding individual achievement. Reading buses, BYD Europe and Eco Travel Network also won awards for their achievements.
