Duynie Chooses Volvo For Sustainability And Environment

Duynie, a Royal Cosun Company that value adds and markets co-products from food production, primarily for use as moist animal feed, has taken delivery of 12 Volvo FH 6×2 tractor units from Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia in Chedburgh, Suffolk.

The units all feature 3-way hydraulics for tipper, walking floor and tanker trailers and all have been supplied to the highest specification, featuring Globetrotter cabs with single bunks, full leather trim, fridges and microwaves.

CEO of Duynie Holding in the Netherlands, Richard Corsmit says: “It is really important that our drivers have a good work place. This helps them to enjoy their job, which means it is easier to recruit and retain the high quality and customer-focussed drivers that are so important to our business. I believe the Volvo FH satisfies this need while offering our logistics operation both reliability and positive returns in terms of fuel consumption. Furthermore, Volvo is a very strong brand driven by a desire to develop and market sustainable transport solutions. This perfectly complements our business where sustainability is a primary goal in all that we do.”

The Euro-6 compliant FH units all feature the D13K500 engine producing 500 hp and the intelligent Volvo I-Shift automated transmission. All have a 3.9 m wheelbase with the AdBlue tank installed at the rear of the cab to facilitate chassis mounted hydraulic tanks.

The trucks also feature 385/80-22.5 tyres on Durabrite alloy wheels, to save weight and give an additional 15cm ground clearance. Transport Manager at Duynie in the UK Paul Storey says: “This extra ground clearance offers a clear advantage when going on to farms. Everything about these units, from the custom designed paintwork to the full colour-coded chequer plate chassis infill is of the highest quality and designed to show our drivers, customers and suppliers the ‘Duynie way’.”

“We are proud of what we have achieved to date here in the UK and with these new Volvo trucks we are taking another significant step to support our goal of being the market leader,” he added.

Indeed, Duynie has seen ten-fold growth in Great Britain over the past two years, both through acquisitions and organically meaning the company now delivers between 600,000 and 700,000 tonnes of animal feed to customers all over the country.

“We are the largest marketing company of co-products in Europe and due to rapid growth in the UK we feel this strategic investment in these Volvo trucks will help us to secure a level of service to British suppliers and customers that will help us further develop our market position,” says Mr. Corsmit.

The units are covered by Volvo Gold repair and maintenance contracts and as they will be stationed across Duynie’s four regional depots they will be cared for at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia Dealerpoints in Chedburgh, Peterborough and Wellingborough.

The tractor units are complemented with top specification 67yd3 (51.3m3) capacity smooth-sided ‘sloper’ tipping semi-trailers from Fruehauf, featuring Edbro tipping rams, the Fruehauf weighing system with chassis mounted display, Fruehauf remote electric ‘Power-ova’ sheeting system and air locking tailgates with rack and pinion grain hatches.
