Xplore Dundee Raises Money for Transaid

Frank Sheach, Xplore Dundee’s Deputy Managing Director, has swapped buses for bikes as he set off on a major charity challenge. Cycle Zambia is a 490 kilometre mountain bike ride through rural Africa, from Lusaka to Victoria Falls, aiming to raise money for the charity Transaid, which works to provide safe, sustainable transport in developing countries.

Frank is in charge of engineering for Xplore Dundee and he has been in training for months and has already raised hundreds of pounds of sponsorship for the event. He originally accepted the challenge from Scotland’s Traffic Commissioner Joan Aitken, who also took part in the charity ride.

“I’m not sure I realised what I was getting myself into when Ms Aitken challenged me to join her! But when I saw what a difference it would make for Transaid and what a great opportunity it would be to see their work and the country of Zambia in person, I knew I had to do it,” said Frank.

“We sometimes take our bus services and our working conditions for granted, and it’s not necessarily the case in other countries that you can jump on a bus to see a doctor, or get to hospital. There’s also the risk for drivers and engineers of dangerous roads or vehicles. Transaid works hard with partners and governments to make a difference in countries such as Zambia and I’m glad I can help them to achieve that,” he added.
