Logistics Specialist Quality Freight Launches Community Fund To Support Ellesmere Port Causes

St Vincent De Paul First To Be Backed By Fund

An Ellesmere Port shipping and logistics company has launched a fund to help support deserving causes in the area.

The Quality Freight UK Community Fund has made its first donation to the St Vincent de Paul Society which is based on the town’s Westminster Industrial Park.  Quality Freight has donated £2,500 to the charity to support the work it does providing essential household items at affordable prices or no cost to disadvantaged members of the community.

The donation will help cover the cost of operating the organisation’s furniture van for a year. The van is used to collect and distribute items to homes in Ellesmere Port. The charity has been working in the community for the past 25 years and is run by a group of 52 volunteers and three part-time paid staff.

Sebastian Gardiner, Managing Director of Quality Freight UK, said: “As a successful and growing business committed to Ellesmere Port, we were keen to set up a fund which enables us to support deserving causes in the area.  In addition to having our head office in the town, many of our 50-strong workforce and their families live in Ellesmere Port.  With the support of Cheshire Community Foundation, which administers our fund, we will be looking to make donations to other worthy causes over the coming months and years.”

Bernard Brennan, Treasurer of the St Vincent de Paul Society in Ellesmere Port, said: “We are a non-profit making organisation which means donations such as this are hugely important in helping us to continue to operate effectively.  We have been working in the Ellesmere Port community for the past 25 years and we know how important the service we provide is to those affected by poverty or disadvantage.”

Helen O’Donnell, Chief Executive of Cheshire Community Foundation, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the launch of the Quality Freight UK Community Fund.

“The Foundation aims to inspire local philanthropy, build local endowment and invest money in local grass roots organisations.  We help people who want to give back to the places in which they live and do business by connecting them to the local community and helping them invest in that community in an intelligent and impactful way.  It is fantastic news that Quality Freight has been able to provide much needed support to the St Vincent de Paul Society.”

Since Cheshire Community Foundation was founded in 2012, more than £1.3million has been given in grants with in excess of £250,000 going to causes in Cheshire West and Chester.

Any residents living in Ellesmere Port who would like to donate furniture they longer need to the St Vincent de Paul Society should ring 0151 355 0689 between 10am and 2pm any weekday and they will be given a date for collection.
