Bibby Distribution Achieves New Safety Standards

Bibby Distribution received two Gold Awards from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) last year for reducing its accident rate by more than 10%. Reducing the Lost Time Accidents (LTAs) and RIDDORs (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrence Regulations) rates led to recognition by RoSPA for both Fleet Safety and Occupational Safety.

“For two years in a row we’ve continuously improved on our already outstanding safety record. We’ve done that by ensuring safety remains at the top of the priority list, even as we’ve expanded our operations,” said Andrew Mawson, Head of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) at Bibby Distribution.

This success is due to the targeted driver training using data derived from Bibby Distribution’s full-fleet telematics and a persistent drive to encourage all staff to be accountable to each other in their safe working practices. Mawson believes that communication and engagement is at the core of the company’s strong safety record.

“Our staff is proactive in identifying any potential safety issues, and then developing practical solutions which address them. If those solutions require additional funding, our board ensures it is provided; we see safety as a long-term investment that will pay for itself many times over,” explained Andrew Mawson.

This achievement brings Bibby Distribution a step closer to its long term Road to Zero strategy, which aims to achieve zero harm, zero waste and zero environmental impact from its operations.

Bibby Distribution is one of the top ten logistics providers in the UK and it specialises in providing contract logistics, warehousing, distribution, systems integration and added value services to a wide range of customers.
