BCA Riders Prepare for 400km Paris Challenge

BCA Riders Prepare for 400km Paris Challenge

Riders gathered at the BCA Blackbushe earlier this week to take part in a 40km training ride around the nearby Surrey and Hampshire countryside ahead of the epic 400km Paris Challenge. It is expected that 45 riders will travel to take part in the Paris challenge in total with the accompanying support crew and vehicles.

The company are taking part in the cycling event in order to raise money for Action for A-T which is a charity that funds the development of medical research into the hunt for a cure for Ataxia Telangiectasia, a rare and genetic degenerative disease that occurs in childhood.

By taking part in this event the vehicle auctioning company is hoping to raise £30,000 which will go towards funding the research into treating and hopefully eventually finding a cure for A-T. Riders taking part in this fundraising event include cyclists from BCA and also a number of others from the wider motor industry.

The 400km challenge will leave from the UK’s largest auction centre, BCA Blackbushe in September and will conclude in Paris, where BCA runs one of eight French remarketing centres.

The charity has spent more than £1,700,000 o a range of different A-T related research projects that have been carried out around the world. A-T is an illness that can affect a number of different systems in the human body, leading to the gradual deterioration for health and causing an overall loss of coordination and muscle control. Children who suffer with this illness are usually confined to a wheelchair by the time that they reach age 10 and then require assistance with everyday tasks.

As part of their commitment to complete the Paris challenge, the team taking part will carry out regular training sessions similar to the one carried out in the Surrey and Hampshire countryside in order to prepare for the event in September.
