Rail Operator Is A Winner Four Times Over

A rail operator has been honoured four times in the North of England Excellence Awards 2013. First TransPennine Express won Special Awards for Sustainability, High Growth, Leadership and Learning & Development.

Assessors were impressed by the company’s commitment to sustainability projects, particularly the Green GrantsScheme operated in partnership with the Forestry Commission, and its success in increasing passenger journeys by 85% over the past nine years compared to an industry average of 33%. They also praised the company’s leadership charter, which ‘set a benchmark for others to follow’ and its personal development programme.

First TransPennine Express operates intercity rail services linking major towns and cities across the North of England and Scotland. The company was presented with its awards by Richard Else, Operations Director of Jaguar Land Rover, at the awards ceremony at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club.

David Teale, Chief Executive of North of England Excellence, said: “The 2013 awards have once again revealed some outstanding examples of best practice in business. These are organisations which are pursuing world-class levels of performance. No doubt they will use the feedback from assessors which they have gained from taking part in the awards to raise their game even higher.”
