Rail Freight To Benefit From Northern Transport Strategy
Rail Freight Group (RFG) welcomed the launch of a long term strategy for transport in the north, and the establishment of Transport for the North (TfN). Government has also committed to work with TfN to produce a multi-modal freight and logistics strategy for the north, to help the private sector invest with confidence in ports and other freight sectors.
Maggie Simpson, RFG Executive Director said today ‘We have been pressing Government to take a more joined up approach to road and rail freight, and this commitment is an important first step. Businesses and consumers in the North of England need a vibrant freight sector to support economic growth, and we need to ensure that rail is playing a key part in meeting that needs’.
