Network Rail invited Vauxhall station users to a drop in event in order to find out more about the upgrade work happening at the station. The improvements taking place will hopefully reduce the congestion during peak periods in order to make boarding and leaving trains easier.
The improvements will include Network Rail replacing the current lift in the station as well as build a new staircase. This will mean that there will be one staircase more than the two already used in the station on Platform 7 and 8. These upgrades are taking place as part of Network Rail’s Waterloo and South West Upgrade. The upgrades are intended to lead to more trains and longer trains operating in this area. The work on these improvements is set to cost £800 million.
The drop in session was held at Vauxhall station on Thursday the 16th March and was held between 8:30 and 9:30 in the morning. There was also an evening session between 16:30 and 18:30, in order to allow passengers the opportunity to find out how they could be affected by the upgrade works.
Network Rail engineers are working in close partnership with South West Trains in order to deliver the Railway Upgrade Plan. The updates are necessary due to the increasing number of service users, and an increased capacity is required to cope with these extra passengers travelling to and from Waterloo.
The Passengers using Vauxhall station could see better access to the station and a greater efficiency as the upgrades will allow more people to get on and off trains more quickly. While upgrades are taking place, Network Rail has advised that passengers using the station plan their journey in advance and take in to account the chance of possible disruption. The work is expected to be finished at the end of the year, when new timetables will come into use.
