Network has announced that throughout the year it will be recommended that passengers in the South East should check before they travel. Due to the Railway Upgrade Plan and other ventures by Network Rail, there will be work carried out over weekend and holidays, at times when the services are less busy with the hope they will cause less disruption. Across London, Sussex, Kent, and for some parts of Surrey Network Rail will be working to deliver planned improvements and carry out maintenance that is necessary in order to increase the capacity of the railways in order to meet the demand.
The improvements are to cope with the increasing number of passengers on the railway as well as in an attempt to boost the reliability and reduce the delays associated with the trains. This work is taking place on Britain’s busiest section of railway.
Work is set to be carried out between Friday 14th April and Monday 17th April, taking place between New Cross and Charing Cross/Canon Street. This work will be carried out on behalf of the Thameslink Programme. The most significant changes will occur for Southeastern passengers as there will be no Southeastern services going in or out of Charing Cross, Waterloo East and London Bridge on the Friday and Saturday the works are being carried out. This is with the exception of the Hastings trains.
There will also be major changes that will be taking place over the August bank holiday and also for the four working days after. This means that there will be fewer trains into London between Saturday 26th August and 2dn September. Over Christmas and New Year, work will be continuing. This means that there will be major changes to the services from 23rd December to 2nd January. This will lead to more robust tracks, and improved connections as well as completely redeveloped stations at Blackfriars and London Bridge.
