Since 2007, there has been an ongoing battle over whether or not the construction of a freight terminal on Park Street at the former Radlett Airfield should be given the go ahead, and local MPs are again expressing their disapproval for the plans which are causing controversy in the area.

Nearly 1,000 people signed a petition aiming to put a stop to these plans in September, which will be including 600 acres of land having to be created in order to replace the existing green belt land, but will it be enough to halt these plans?

One of the main criticisms of the idea is the fact that the amount of people working on the project and the heavy equipment that would be needed to complete the project need difficult provisions to be in place and would require workers to travel from various different areas of the UK.

 “As I have said all along, one of the many problems with the rail freight terminal is that they will not be able to find workers for the site in the surrounding areas” said Hertsmere MP Oliver Dowden. “Workers will have to travel from London and Luton, further adding to the pressure on our roads.

“Segro, the terminal developer, promised it would provide adequate transport for workers but they do not have any plans to do so. This is yet another gaping hole in the planning process for this completely inappropriate rail freight terminal.”

So will Segro come up with some efficient plans to make the transport available for the people needed to make the terminal happen? There are no guarantees it will be solved any time soon, particularly with the MPs coming out against the proposals once again, so who knows who will win this battle once it eventually concludes?
