Work to extend the platforms at Camberley station has been completed by Network Rail. The project, that has been carried out by the railway company as part of their Railway Upgrade Plan, and is one section of the Waterloo & South West Upgrade. The work is being carried out in order to increase the capacity of passengers travelling in to Waterloo by 30% by the end of next year.

The platforms will be extended in order to accommodate 10-car trains that are expected to be operating along the Waterloo and South west routes from May 2017. The Engineers have extended the platforms which will improve the service for passengers and deliver faster, more frequent and more efficient services as part of their Railway Upgrade Plan.

The £800 million work to the Waterloo and South West routes will go towards increasing the amount of space available to passengers that are using the service in and out of Waterloo Station. Network Rail are wanting to than passengers for their patience during the upgrades that are taking place across all services around the country. These upgrades, as part of the Railway Upgrade Plan is the largest body of work to be carried out in this sector for a long time.

Waterloo station is in receipt of its biggest investments in decades. The work carried out will see five more platforms built at Waterloo, achieved by repurposing the former Waterloo International Terminal. There will be longer platforms in order to cope with the longer trains that are being introduced, as well as 30 brand new trains being added to the route. This will allow for 150 extra carriages, and will meet the increased passenger demand. There will also be improvements to the technology along the routes in order to make the trains more punctual and efficient.
