Lynch Tankers proudly marks its 70th anniversary in 2024. Since its foundation in 1954 with six tipper trucks transporting lime for ICI in Cheshire, the company has evolved into a leading provider of chemical and hazardous liquid transportation across the UK, Europe, and Ireland.
Operating from the Moss Lane Industrial Estate in Sandbach, Lynch Tankers is strategically positioned near the M6, enabling seamless access to major transport routes. With a fleet of over 50 tankers, including specialised units for hazardous materials, the company continues to deliver exceptional service for some of the nation’s largest chemical companies.
A cornerstone of Lynch Tankers’ success is its diverse and meticulously maintained fleet. The company operates 28 black rubber-lined tanks dedicated to transporting hydrochloric acid (HCL), with two additional units arriving in 2025. The fleet also includes 13 general-purpose tankers, primarily for caustic and sulphuric substances, and 10 white rubber-lined tanks for sodium hypochlorite, with another set to join in November 2024. A unique top-discharge HCL road tanker, custom-built to exacting specifications, underscores the firm’s commitment to innovation and safety, particularly for its international operations.
This milestone year also celebrates continued investment in infrastructure and technology. Over the past 12 months, Lynch Tankers has added four Volvo units and two bespoke Crossland tankers to its fleet, with plans for further expansion in 2025. Office and garage upgrades reflect the company’s dedication to providing a modern work environment, while a planned stock control system will enhance operational efficiency.
Furthermore, the company has recently made significant strides in enhancing safety and driver welfare. To strengthen its commitment to health and safety, the company has brought Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) audits in-house. Previously outsourced, the new approach allows daily oversight and quicker implementation of safety improvements.
With its qualified DGSA, Mark Owen, Lynch Tankers ensures its operations meet the highest safety standards. Their expertise enables a proactive approach, reducing risks in handling hazardous products.
Driver welfare has also been prioritised with the unveiling of brand-new facilities at the Sandbach base. The revamped driver space now features a modern kitchen, breakfast bar, non-slip flooring, and a shower and toilet block. These upgrades provide a relaxing and functional environment, ensuring drivers have a clean and comfortable space to recharge. These initiatives underscore Lynch Tankers’ dedication to safety, innovation, and its team’s wellbeing.
More recently, the company has also revamped its garage facilities with a new kitchen, toilet and wash area and added an additional space for personal lockers for each member of the garage team. To enhance safety, two new fire doors have been installed in the building with further improvements on the horizon. These include new safety stairs from the mezzanine level to the ground floor, making ground floor access easier in the event of a fire.
As the 2023 Northern Tanker Operator of the Year, Lynch Tankers continues to set industry benchmarks for safety, reliability, and innovation. Over the next five years, the firm aims to enhance its infrastructure and operations further. Plans include upgrading the yard with new fuel tanks and brake rollers, as well as expanding the team of vehicle technicians. The company is committed to advancing its training programmes and improving its SQAS (Safety and Quality Assessment System) score.
Additionally, Lynch Tankers will modernise its fleet by investing in new equipment and phasing out older vehicles. With a forward-thinking approach, the company is poised to build on its proud history, ensuring another 70 years of success in the industry.
