Brocks Haulage Takes Iveco Stralis X-Way

The first 44-tonne Iveco Stralis X-Way 6×4 tractor unit to arrive in the UK have been taken home by waste haulage specialist Brocks Haulage. The Stralis X-Way – which was on the Iveco stand at Tip-ex 2019 before its delivery – was supplied by local dealer Acorn Trucks in West Thurrock.

After being impressed with the addition of 10 new Stralis X-Way 8×4 tippers to its fleet at the start of 2019, which were also the company’s first Iveco, Brocks Haulage ordered the double-drive IVECO tractor.

“We have had good feedback from the drivers on the Iveco tippers; they’ve attracted a lot of attention and boosted the company image a lot in recent months. We’ve always required 6×4 tractors for our landfill work, but previously they’ve been sourced from other manufacturers. This time we were attracted to the Iveco unit based on our experiences with the Stralis X-Way rigids; we were keen to try something different and trusted in Iveco and Acorn Trucks to deliver,” said Anthony Brown, Brocks Haulage’s operations director.

The tractor will be primarily used on waste haulage work from transfer stations to recycling depots around the southeast of England. It will also be used for low loader work, moving a range of plant equipment ranging from mini-diggers to 35-tonne excavators.

The Stralis X-Way double-drive tractor is designed by Iveco to give operators the confidence to tackle ‘final mile’ deliveries onto construction sites with ease, while ensuring high productivity, safety and excellent total cost of ownership.

Brocks Haulage does a lot of heavy-duty work, with the truck frequently operating at maximum gross vehicle weight, delivering onto landfill and construction sites. With this in mind, the firm has selected Iveco’s ‘OFF’ chassis setup to give the vehicle the ability to take on terrain with an approach angle greater than 25 degrees, guaranteeing the best performance when collecting and delivering off-road. Alongside ON and ON+, OFF is one of three chassis setups available across the Stralis X-Way range.

The truck is powered by Iveco’s 11.1-litre Cursor 11 engine delivering 480hp and 2,300Nm of torque and has been fitted with a wet kit for operating Brocks Haulage’s ejector and walking floor trailers. It also features an optional low-level passenger door window, which provides direct visibility for the driver of pedestrians and other road users.
