MAN Only Plan For Replacement Fleet

Rental company buys ex-demonstrator and commits to MAN Bus & Truck UK and MAN Finance for a rolling programme of vehicle replacement.

Family-run Palmer & Martin Hire, based in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, expanded into general haulage in 2010, running one vehicle for three years, and has now expanded to seven vehicles.

The latest addition to the fleet was a MAN TopUsed TGM curtainsider, and the success of the vehicle has prompted the commitment to new stock.

Director James Palmer said: “The MAN has quickly become a drivers’ favourite and it has certainly been easier to get drivers to nightout since having it. We have also taken the opportunity of showing it to some of our regular customers, and they were very impressed.

“We have decided to switch all of our hire vehicles over to MAN as they are due for renewal. We have just taken delivery of a new 7.5 tonne box truck and we have two more MAN 18 tonne curtainsiders on order and later in the year will be ordering two more 7.5 tonne curtainsiders.”

He added: “We chose MAN because not only do we like their products, but also the high level of service that we have received. The TopUsed trucks are very attractive to us because it eliminates the downtime of waiting for a new vehicle to be built.

“Everyone from the salesman to the people we have dealt with in MAN Finance, which helped with funding the new vehicles at competitive rates, has been very helpful.

“Switching to one provider will allow us to streamline our maintenance and tyre replacements as we have our own workshop.”
