“It’s Your Duty To Keep At-Work Drivers Safe” Urges Brake

Brake, the road safety charity, is inviting fleets and other organisations to sign up for its free webinar taking place on Wednesday 18 November as part of Road Safety Week.

The 90-minute webinar, Safe People on the Move at Work, will explore risks associated with driving for work, focusing on speed, distraction and fatigue.

Aimed at employers, managers, and organisations that hire people who drive as part of their job, it will cover the policies, technology and decisions that contribute to minimising those risks.

Attendees can expect practical, take-home tips that will help ensure drivers are as safe as possible on every journey they make. For example:

  • How the way we drive affects our risk of being in a crash and how the choices we make when we’re behind the wheel can make a big difference.
  • How modern vehicle technology can help address risky driving behaviours.
  • The real risks associated with fatigue, impairment and driver distraction, and how to create a culture that puts safety first and champions driver wellbeing.

Ross Moorlock, CEO of Brake, said: “Driving is probably the most dangerous thing your employees do in their jobs. In fact, one-quarter of deaths on the UK’s roads involve someone driving for work.

“As an employer, it is your duty to keep at-work drivers safe, making sure everyone who gets behind the wheel for work can also get home safely at the end of the day. You have the power to make a real difference, and joining our webinar can help you take positive action.”

Last year’s Road Safety Week webinar was a huge success: 100% of attendees said it met or exceeded their expectations; 96% rated it 4 out of 5 or higher; and 96% said they were likely or very likely to recommend it to colleagues.

Comments included that the webinar was “really informative and showed empathy on emotional situations and not judging”, and that “speakers provided interesting safety information and knowledge”.

Taking place each November, Road Safety Week is Brake’s national campaign to raise awareness of the impact of road death and injury and call for key measures to make roads safer.

This year’s theme is Safe People on the Move. Whether we walk, wheel, ride or drive, we all share our roads when we are on the move. We all play a part in keeping ourselves and others safe, and those with the potential to do the most harm must have the greatest responsibility to protect those people who are more vulnerable on our roads. Safe road use is an important part of the safe system approach to road safety – a shared approach to prevent death and serious injury from road crashes.
