S J Bargh, a Lancaster based logistics firm has continued its expansion by taking over Stoke-on-Trent based haulier, R G Bassett, for an undisclosed fee.
The firm’s warehousing and general haulage operation will increase as a result of the take over, as well as adding more drivers to the business and related training services.
The Bassett organisation currently employs 100 staff across its 11 acre site which is situated close to Stoke-on-Trent and is close to new and existing S J Bargh premises with good links to the M6 and A50.
S J Bargh will remain primarily focused on specialised logistics, such as collecting and disttibuting milk for clients like Muller Milk and Ingredients, Joseph Heler and Arla Foods.
Whereas, Bassetts will continue to operate as its own brand which will keep its main focus on general haulage services.
Anthony Finlayson-Green, Managing Director at Bargh, said that the company’s board and shareholders appreciate the Bassetts firm for its commitment to quality, integrity and operational excellence.
He added that Bargh has chosen to make this acquisition due to the great synergy that is present between the two groups.
Mr Finlayson-Green also commented that customers of both Bargh and Bassetts will benefit greatly from the deal as they will be able to offer a bigger scale of operations with an increased sized team, along with more warehousing and vehicles and a vast range of complementary services.
Meanwhile, one of R G Bassett’s directors, Claire Bassett, said that the decision was made at a time when the company’s owners are nearing retirement age.
She added that they are delighted to be part of the bright future ahead at Bargh’s, with the decision to join their group made easier by the shared family values that will compliment their existing services.
After the take over, the S J Bargh Group will now be made up of over 500 employees across four main sites in the Midlands and the North West.
