A Comprehensive Waste Management Solution In North West Wales : Specialising in skips, trade waste and recycling alongside the sale of aggregates and the provision of road sweeping, grab hire, drain jetting and surveying services.
Based near Pwllheli at the heart of the Llŷn Peninsula, Williams a Williams Cyf provides comprehensive waste management services to both private and business customers, covering a wide geographical area mainly within Gwynedd of almost 1,000 square miles. Originally established in 1920 by two friends, both called David Williams, the business has remained a family-run firm with the third and fourth generation now in charge.
Its work remains varied. As well as servicing the needs of four power stations it also provides solutions to private and construction business requirements as well as a number of holiday resorts, smaller holiday accommodation rentals and caravan sites which need a lot of attention during the busy summer periods. In terms of employees, the company prides itself on employing local people and offering regular hours, with overtime available if required and a competitive remuneration package. As a family business, it is accommodating and flexible where possible.
Confidently adapting to the market, in recent years Williams a Williams Cyf has strengthened its recycling capability and offers a sector leading service in the area to maximise on reducing waste to landfill to minimal levels. Waste rubble is crushed and screened to produce a competitive, quality product which has proved very popular.
Incoming Welsh laws to be introduced in April will require all businesses to source and segregate their waste for separate collection and Williams a Williams is more than ready to meet these requirements. Customers themselves will be responsible for ensuring they’re legally compliant. To overcome new challenges presented by the fact waste handlers have to collect separately to ensure their own compliance, the company has introduced extra vehicles and staff.
Proudly, as a waste operator, Williams a Williams Cyf was the first company to be accredited with The Green Compass Pas 402 back in 2009. It is the only scheme specifically created for waste operators and includes annual reporting requirements to retain accreditation. The company has continued to look at ways it can operate more sustainably and efficiently. Indeed, it is now committed to becoming carbon neutral in the next few years.
It is on the way to achieving this through, for example, its use of a biomass system which heats the offices, garage and recycling cabins and 50KVA (max) solar panel units which were installed over a decade ago.
It also ensures the fleet is as modern as possible. Two new Volvo trucks were purchased in 2023. The first, a FH540 dual clutch drawbar hook-loader with sleeper cab, was introduced to maximise driving-hour efficiency on longer routes. Secondly, a Volvo FM460 skip loader coupled to a Cauldwell skip trailer has just been will be added to the fleet soon. This vehicle houses twin bins with a unique twin sheeting system designed by Williams a Williams Cyf and Cauldwell trailers.
A new 16-tonne Volvo refuse lorry is on order for May 2024 increasing the fleet to facilitate the new pending regulations. Significantly, all but two vehicles are now Euro 6. The business would like to introduce EV HGVs but range and infrastructure limitations prevent this from being a viable option currently.
With 104 years under its belt and two enthusiastic sons introducing the fourth generation to the business, Williams a Williams Cyf is in a strong position to meet the challenges ahead. Not only does it have an enviable reputation but it also possesses a loyal and varied customer base, and hard-working staff.
