Institution of Engineering and Technology names 2013 Achievement Award winners

The Institution of Engineering and Technology has announced the winners of its prestigious Achievement Awards. Those honoured are some of the world’s top engineering minds and talent, who have pioneered a range of engineering innovations from quantum systems that create faster and more secure computers to an artificial pancreas to tackle diabetes.

The IET Achievement Awards recognise individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the advancement of science, engineering and technology in any sector, either through research and development in their respective technical field or through their leadership of an enterprise.

This year’s winners include Mr Richard Sadler, Chief Executive Officer at Lloyd’s Register Group.

Mr Richard Sadler, Chief Executive Officer, Lloyd’s Register Group, UK was appointed CEO in 2007. Richard Sadler possesses strategic and operational expertise in transportation and energy risk and safety management. He has expanded the company’s scope and positioned it firmly as the world leader in its field. He has also devoted significant personal time to promoting engineering as a profession to young people and led the formation of new Lloyds Register Global Technology Centres at Southampton and Singapore Universities and is an influential advocate to Government on how to build UK engineering capability.

Nigel Fine, Chief Executive of the IET said: “The Institution of Engineering and Technology Achievement Awards recognise individuals who have made a truly outstanding contribution to engineering, from talented young professionals through to engineers at the pinnacle of their careers. The IET is passionate about promoting engineering excellence and the Achievement Awards showcase some of the world’s best engineering talent. The winners should be extremely proud of their achievements.”

The winners, who were selected from a line-up of leading engineers by a panel of expert judges, will now be invited to collect their awards at a prestigious awards ceremony on 20 November.
