As of writing, Speedy Hire currently boasts in excess of 3,500 product lines (including more than 300,000 itemised assets available for hire), including everything from everyday power tools and equipment through: specialist lifting, survey, powered access, rail, and power generation equipment to offer something of a one-stop solution for both those traditional and specialist construction projects. What’s more, appreciating that no two projects are the same, and thus neither are the tools required, the Speedy Hire also offers extensive support via its expansive network of supply chain members to source the right solution for just about any job.
As for the fleet, Speedy Hire boasts an enormous fleet, with figures shared back in 2025 including a total of 1674 vehicles, including 634 company cars and 104 commercial vehicles. Overseeing this fleet is Aaron Powell, Fleet & Logistics Director for Speedy Hire, who is ranked 42th on GREENFLEET’s list for the 100 most influential fleet managers as of 2025.
As an overarching summary, Speedy Hire maintains the complete spectrum of tools and equipment for the construction industry, including: power tools, heating systems, lighting systems, access equipment (including powered access), power generators, material lift systems, concrete and compression tools, and an assortment of plant for just about every on-site requirement; this includes the likes of dumpers, excavators, moling equipment, outrigger mats, rollers, telehandlers, forklifts, and trailers. Training courses are also available for all specialist plant and equipment.
Beyond the supply of industry leading equipment, however, Speedy Hire has made a name for itself in serving as a “one call” solution for total control of equipment and consumables, helping clients to maintain and operate their plant and equipment at maximum efficiency. In particular, dedicated specialist support and services are offered for: welding technology solutions; lifting, inspection, and testing through Lloyds British; safety and skills training; and equipment and consumable sales support.
Inspiring Workplace Awards: A Top 100 Inspiring Workplace
At last year’s 2025 ceremony, Speedy Hire was named the 57th most inspiring workplace in the Inspiring Workplace Awards’ worldwide ranking, following on from the firm’s earlier achievement of being ranked 11th in the UK&I Inspiring Workplace Awards (Large Businesses). Judges at the ceremony specifically praised Speedy Hire for its clear direction across six key areas, the firm’s focus on colleague well-being, and the investments made into leadership development – as supported by a value-led culture which emphasises collaboration, inclusion, and belonging.
Celebrating organisations that put people at the core of their purpose and operations, the Inspiring Workplace Awards promote organisations such as Speedy Hire in championing their workforce and becoming something of an employer of choice. As such, being placed in the top 100 for inspiring workplaces is a huge achievement for Speedy Hire and recognises the firm’s “People First” culture, which spans everything from enhancing colleague experience through to supporting well-being and development, and creating an environment where people can perform at their best.
Ellie Armour, Chief People Officer for Speedy Hire, said, “Being recognised on a global stage as one of the world’s most Inspiring Workplaces is an incredible honour, and one we’re very proud of. This recognition reflects the passion and dedication of our colleagues, who live our values and drive our culture forward every day. At Speedy Hire, putting people first isn’t just a strategy – it’s the foundation of our success.”
Reportedly, a judge from Inspiring Workplaces also said, “There seems to be a great connection between Speedy Hire’s purpose, culture and their leadership development. There’s also fantastic work being done to support their people and their wellbeing.”
Protecting Lives & The Environment
Aside from its inspiring workplace, Speedy Hire is also a frontrunner in pushing the boundaries of safety and sustainability, as evidenced in a comprehensive culture around both issues. First looking at the topic of safety, the company uses a combination of monitoring and safety systems to inform on safety behaviours and develop a robust understanding of shortcomings. Using this information, Speedy Hire pairs this with continued safety training and nigh-on unparalleled levels of communication to ensure that such shortcomings are resolved and that risk can be mitigated at source. Reportedly, it’s a fairly integrated process, and it’s worked to develop a robust safety culture where the topic can be approached through a very positive lens.
Following on from 2024’s announcement that Speedy Hire was equipping more than 300 of its vans with portable defibrillators (which are registered on The Circuit, the National Defibrillator Network) to bolster safety standards far above and beyond the norm, Speedy Hire has since compounded upon these efforts with the rolling out of comprehensive CPR training for colleagues in partnership with the British Heart Foundation. Thus far, the initiative has seen over 2,000 Speedy Hire employees undertake the training via the firm’s training portal which, when paired with the use of the installed AEDs can reportedly double a person’s chance of survival in the case of a cardiac arrest. It represents a level of commitment that is very unique to Speedy Hire.
Commenting on the training provided, Andy Johnson, Group HSSEQ director for Speedy Hire, said, “We are immensely proud of our colleagues for embracing this life-saving training. This initiative isn’t just about the workplace — it’s about making a real difference in our communities. Every second counts in a cardiac arrest, and by equipping our teams with CPR skills and access to defibrillators, we’re creating a safer environment for everyone.”
Tess McGrath, Fundraising Manager at the British Heart Foundation, added, “We are really proud of our partnership with Speedy Hire and it’s great to see how seriously the business takes heart health and the wellbeing of its brilliant colleagues. We are delighted that over 2,000 colleagues took part in the BHF online RevivR CPR training because every second counts in a cardiac arrest.
“We are incredibly grateful too for the fantastic fundraising effort throughout Speedy Hire during Heart Month which will help the BHF fund groundbreaking research that will get us closer than ever to a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory diseases.”
