Cut Admin Costs To Ease Driver Crisis Urges Lobster

Freight and logistics firms should streamline back office operations and utilise the resources saved to address driver shortages, claims Chesterfield-based EDI experts, Lobster.

Jeni Steele, Lobster’s head of UK, said: “Our software improves operational efficiency, producing time and cost savings that logistics firms could invest in new staff.”

Lobster_data allows users to exchange thousands of files in any format with suppliers, clients and professional partners, whilst managing mapping and new profiles in house.

Jeni added: “Our fixed cost package enables clients to save money and budget more accurately, which can free up resources that could be used by haulage companies to increase engagement with young job seekers and implement vocational training.”

The logistics industry is suffering a recruitment crisis due to a lack of visibility among young job seekers, the introduction of European rules requiring heavy goods vehicle (HGV) drivers to hold a Certificate of Professional Competence, plus the costs of training and insurance. Consequently, this is increasing customer waiting times and prices for road haulage.

Austrian client and logistics giant, the Gartner Group, not only uses Lobster_data to run its back office processes, but also to aid fleet management. Every lorry arriving at its depot crosses a tyre pressure testing system and should the readings fall below specified values, the driver is informed automatically via a message in his or her native language.

Jeni concluded: “Gartner is the perfect example of how our software can have a direct impact on drivers. It showcases to young, prospective employees that the company is conscientious and willing to embrace new technology to increase road safety and general productivity.”
