34% Of Transport Managers Plan To Quit In Next Five Years

Did you know that 34 per cent of transport managers plan to leave the industry in the next five years, according to a Freight Transport Association (FTA) survey? The figure has increased by a third since last year – all managers surveyed were nominated CPC holders for the purposes of their company’s Operator Licence.

This fact and many more are in FTA’s Transport Manager survey sponsored by Volvo Trucks, the results of which will be revealed at the Transport Manager conference series starting at Brands Hatch on 9 September and touring the country until December. The conferences give transport managers and those in charge of road transport fleets the opportunity to hear from key industry speakers and experts such as their local Traffic Commissioner on the latest issues affecting their operation, preparing them for the year ahead.

One of the key sessions examines the issue of how to maintain a skilled workforce, including where to go for new staff, how to engage with the staff you have and what training and development opportunities are there for the future.

Other sessions at FTA Transport Manager 2015 include:

• The Traffic Commissioners on their priorities for the coming year
• The implications for drivers following the inquiry into the Glasgow bin lorry accident
• Managing the road network and congestion – in particular issues surrounding Operation Stack
• Summary of air quality and environmental measures
• Driver crisis – where are new drivers going to come from?
• Next generation enforcement – linked in with earned recognition
• Euro VI, have our concerns and fears been confirmed?
There will be a clear action plan at the end of most sessions for delegates to take away with them and apply to their own operation.
