The AA recently took the decision to update the mobile technology they use for their 3,000 patrols in order to improve both communications and customer service. The AA selected Panasonic’s rugged Toughpad FZ-G1 tablets for this upgrade and have also adopted the vehicle docking solution. This new equipment has been chosen because of its functionality and will allow AA workers carrying out patrols to offer a better service while also improving the communication channel between patrols.
The AA carried out a range of extensive tests on different mobile devices before making a final decision and selecting the Panasonic tech. The device was selected by the breakdown service company due to its portability, lightweight tablet that is easy to manoeuvre and use outside of the van when required. The patrols are using the system to capture customer’s signatures. The Toughpad FZ-G1 tablet has also been praised for the sensitivity of the touchscreen which suits AA’s requirements.
It was a main aim for AAA to improve the connectivity and communication capability of the device in order to improve the service that is offered to customers while the AA carry out a call out. The AA took on a challenge that has not been overcome before when looking for a way to secure a mobile data connection for the Toughpads in a wide range of remote locations. A lack of connection could then cause a delay in the recording and reporting of information during call outs, which could then have an impact on the quick and efficient service that AA strive to offer.
The new Panasonic Toughpad will be used by patrols as a primary tool when on callouts. The device will allow patrols to accept jobs via the interface on offer as well as allowing the team to locate the breakdown with GPS and lets the customer service centre know when they have arrived. The device also offers the patrols an opportunity to search online for more specialist knowledge as well as order replacement parts before completing the task and closing the job. The wider range of options on offer through this device means that the AA can operate more efficiently..
