IRTE Conference 2014 – Your Route To Transport Industry Success

Transport professionals from some of the most forward-looking names in the business will speak at this year’s IRTE Conference on 17 September, at Hilton at St George’s Park, Burton Upon Trent.

Transport engineers, fleet managers and industry experts are set to reveal the latest technologies and thinking to help operators increase fleet efficiency, save fuel and improve compliance.

Secretary of State for Transport, Claire Perry MP, is to convey a message to this year’s delegates, while David Cebon, Director of the Cambridge Vehicle Dynamics Consortium, will deliver the keynote. Sessions will cover: Euro 6 engine maintenance; selecting trucks to minimise total costs; the next EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval update; and why the industry is looking to dual-fuel for a lower cost future.

This year the IRTE Conference will also include a mock public inquiry presided over by Traffic Commissioner Kevin Rooney with a defending legal team from Backhouse Jones solicitors.

Headline speakers include: Alastair Peoples, DVSA Chief Executive; Tyrone Lanaway, Engineering Manager of Langdon Industries; Tony Soper, Principal Engineer at Millbrook; Stephen Carroll from CENEX; Andrew Woodfall from Backhouse Jones; Trevor Fletcher, Chairman of Hardstaff; and Stuart Nancollis, Managing Director of driver behaviour specialist Octave.

New this year are in-depth streams covering legal/compliance; fuel saving; and bus and coach. The legal stream will include DVSA and traffic commissioner strategy updates as well as current law enforcement and legal trends. The fuel-saving stream will offer insights on telematics, driver behaviour, aerodynamics and dual-fuel. And the bus and coach stream will include hybrids and electrics; New Bus for London; design and maintenance for fire prevention; and biofuels and fuel additives.

Ian Chisholm, Head of Operations & Communications at IRTE’s umbrella body the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE), says: “The IRTE Conference offers a unique opportunity to hear the latest thinking on road transport, which includes compliance, technology and efficiency. Conference speakers are drawn from right across the industry and offer a wealth of experience that will help delegates meet the challenges and triumphs affecting the whole industry.”
