The Welsh Government has expanded an innovative programme to help businesses across Wales thrive and tackle known skills shortages in the transport and logistics sector. The Flexible Skills Programme, offers financial support to help businesses train employees, ensuring a bright future for Welsh enterprises. The initiative is designed to empower Welsh businesses to invest in themselves and build a highly skilled workforce to drive forward growth.
Recent research from Business Wales reveals that almost a quarter of Welsh businesses in the transport and logistics sector have identified skills gaps in their workforce – more than any other industry. Additionally, 56% expect to face challenges in retaining talent in 2025.
The Flexible Skills Programme is here to support industry in building a skilled workforce by part-funding training courses, enabling and accelerating business growth. This programme aims to help businesses develop vital digital skills, address export-related challenges, tackle Net Zero goals, and upskill to bridge gaps in key sectors such as transport and logistics.
Businesses participating in the Flexible Skills Programme can receive funding for up to 50% of their training costs. This funding can be used for both face-to-face and online training, with no requirement to use a specific training provider, but all supported training must be accredited or meet recognised industry standards.
