CM Downton Signs Contract with Smiths News

DOWNTON delivers has won a contract with Smiths News, the UKs leading Newspaper and magazine wholesaler. Starting in June 2017 Downton will be covering daily trunking operations between its magazines hub in Hemel Hampstead and deposits in Stevenage and Hornsay.

CM Downton is a 1955 founded company and a market leading logistics firm. The company works with customers in a range of sectors e.g. print and publishing, food and drink, and manufacturing.

The new operations will require the business to be highly efficient and flexible, especially because News production is a 24-hour business. The Magazines distribution hub in Hemel Hempstead serves other Smiths News deposits throughout the south east. With 30,000 customers Smiths News delivers well over half of all newspapers read in the UK.

David Hutchings, Head of Business Development at CM Downton explains: “Hemel Hempstead is close to our own facility in Dunstable which enables us to offer local support whenever it’s needed. It is another example of how we can use our expertise and experience in the paper and print sectors to devise innovative and cost-effective solutions for our customers.”
