Balsam Hill Appointed Walker Logistics for the Management

One of the largest online retailers in the world for realistic artificial Christmas trees, Balsam Hill, has appointed Walker Logistics for the management of part of its UK supply chain for the 2017 season. The artificial tree and seasonal decoration retailer has appointed Walker Logistics in order to assists with the high volume of orders expected in the months before christmas.

Balsam Hill is an online retailer, with all sales taking place through their website. The business experiences an increase in orders leading up to christmas and another spike after christmas while Balsam Hill hold their annual clearance sale. As part of their service for Balsam, Walker Logistics could expect to pick, pack and dispatch more than 2,000 orders each day for the festive retailer.

In order to prepare for this operation, Walker Logistics are prepared to receive 50-60 loaded containers filled with stock for the operation. The Logistics company has set aside around 1500 pallet locations as well as a dedicated operating space in their facilities which are located in Membury in order to successfully carry out the contract for Balsam Hill.

The Logistics company need to be efficient in order to process and ship the high volume of orders expected in the very narrow window of time. Walker Logistics will be making the most of their IT systems in order to make sure that the work takes place smoothly. In order to make sure that their systems will be able to cope with the surge in orders, Walker Logistics have been putting their systems through stress tests in order to make sure all of their infrastructure is operating as efficiently as it should.

Balsam’s seasonal trade has also allowed Walker Logistics to co-locate in their warehouse with a company who operates through the spring and summer supplying garden furniture.
