Drivers and other employees at Xplore Dundee are being offered free health checks, as National Express’s award-winning Health Bus initiative visits the Scottish garage.
The team has travelled north to hold confidential appointments on site with staff; an independent health professional offers a range of checks and advice on various health-related matters, including tests for blood pressure, eyesight and blood sugar, an ECG monitor and general dietary and fitness requirements.
It’s the second time this year the health team has visited the Dundee depot – they regularly travel throughout the National Express UK Bus division on the Health Bus, stopping at garages throughout the West Midlands and Coventry.
Managing Director Elsie Turbyne is pleased to see the return of the Health Team:
“It’s fantastic that we can provide a way for our workforce to get themselves checked and ensure they’re in the best health they can be. This initiative has been welcomed and well supported by employees throughout the business and has already proved to be a potential life-saver for a number of people who have had urgent health issues identified by the team and were then able to seek further attention from their own doctors.
“I would urge other businesses to follow suit and offer a similar service – it’s something which we are proud to provide and is proving extremely beneficial to our people.”
In August the Health Bus project was recognised as the UK’s best project, in any industry, to support employees’ health, winning the Best Health and Wellbeing Strategy in the national Workplace Savings and Benefits Awards.
