Work Expected to be Carried Out For This Bank Holiday

Work is expected to be carried out this Bank Holiday. Because of the work that is being carried out, train users are being asked to check the services before they travel. It is thought that the majority of the rail network will be running as normal, but there will be a number of services disrupted over the extended weekend.

The Crewe to Warrington service between 1215 on Saturday 28th April and the 1155 on Monday the 1st May will be affected as work is being carried out to the track. Another service affected due to track work, is the Wigan to Preston service between 1215 on Saturday 28th April and 0500 Monday 1st May. There will also be disruption to the Preston to Carlisle service all day on Sunday 29th April.

It has also been announced that the Weaver to Wavertree between 1215 Saturday 29th April and 1155 on Monday 1st May. The disruption on this route will be caused by work to the signaling systems. Journeys in to Manchester Victoria will be disrupted from 0050 Sunday 30th April and 0440 on Tuesday 2nd May because of the work that is scheduled to be carried out on the Ordsall Chord project. Finally, there will be track work carried out on the Birkenhead Central and Liverpool Central routes between 0050 Sunday 30th April and 0440 on Tuesday 2nd May.

These disruptions are all scheduled works that are related to the Rail Upgrade Plan that is being carried out across Britain. Network Rail owns manages and develops all of the rail networks around Britain, which equates to around 20,000 miles of track that requires maintenance and upgrades. Carrying out work over the weekends and bank holidays minimizes the levels of disruption caused, although it could inconvenience a number of people, this period is the quietest for the rail network.
