Two United Kingdom-based businesses – Allport Cargo Services and The Keswick Enterprises Group – have joined forces to create a new freight forwarding joint venture in Romania.
Named ACS Romania, the company is operational with immediate effect, and has been created to increase choice, raise efficiency and improve value for money for customers with domestic transport and international freight forwarding requirements in and out of Romania. It will see the partners combine their expertise and resources to enhance road, sea and airfreight services across the South East Europe region.
Allport Cargo Services is one of the largest independent freight forwarders in the UK, and has an established presence worldwide. Keswick Enterprises is a UK-based investor in supply chain related businesses, and already has substantial interests in Romania through its Tibbett Logistics subsidiary.
Customers will benefit from the Balkan knowledge and experience of Tibbett Logistics, the largest independent third-party logistics service provider in Romania, coupled with the multi-national freight forwarding expertise of Allport Cargo, which has operations in 30 countries and already has an established presence in the Romanian marketplace.
Charles McGurin, Chief Executive Officer at Allport Cargo Services, commented: “ACS has operated to and from Romania for many years and the move to formalise an official presence there forms part of a strategic growth directive. The partnership with Keswick Enterprises means that we are in a position to further improve the level of service offered in the region and demonstrates our commitment to our customers.”
John Harvey CBE, Executive Chairman of Keswick Enterprises Group, added: “Through Tibbett Logistics and its predecessor companies, Keswick management have operated domestically in Romania for twenty years and we believe the time is right to extend our customer support levels in the region by adding freight forwarding to our Romanian portfolio.
“We are undertaking an increasing volume of intra-European haulage on behalf of our clients. Six years ago, we established a domestic intermodal operation with our own rail wagons and a private rail freight terminal to move containers from Constanta to Bucharest. This has now been extended into a wider European intermodal operation, and reinforces our interest in working with Allport’s international network. ACS Romania will enhance both companies’ capabilities and commitment to the Romanian market.”
