Boughey Distribution (Boughey) has become a member of Palletline – the UK’s leading palletised distribution specialists. Its new fleet of Palletline trailers will be delivering and picking up from the Central Hub in Birmingham. The news comes as Boughey looks to further expand its service and is exploring new ways to support other businesses near its main distribution site in Wardle.
Boughey Distribution is one of the UK’s leading ambient grocery distribution and storage specialists. From its Cheshire warehousing site it provides a quality warehouse and distribution service to anywhere in the UK, which encompasses collection, storage, repacking, picking and delivery. The business consolidates full loads from its customers – the food producers and importers – and ships them across the UK daily to all the major supermarkets, cash and carry and food service distribution depots.
Its membership of Palletline will mean that Boughey will have the opportunity to provide a distribution service to a different market, beyond ambient grocery. It also forms part of Boughey’s commitment to support the local economy. Its membership also allows Boughey to offer a service to local businesses that will enable them to reach a UK-wide distribution network, without the heavy investment costs that are typically required for this type of delivery service. There is a dedicated Palletline team, warehouse area and trailers used for Palletline deliveries at Boughey’s main distribution site in Wardle.
Palletline operates a hub and palletised distribution system, meaning it can transport palletised goods across the UK, quickly and efficiently. It manages all load sizes, overnight and economy, and offers next working day service across mainland UK. Its members are responsible for the delivery of operations, working together to provide one seamless, collective service.
Members collect freights from customers, identify any for delivery outside the local area and exchange freights with other hubs for delivery in their area. The concept means that each regional site handles consignments for delivery in that area, ensuring Palletline reduces travel miles and environmental impact. The business has six hubs, one central facility and five regional bases. Boughey will be delivering to and picking up from the Central Hub in Birmingham.
Commented Martyn Nicholls, commercial director at Boughey Distribution: “The decision to join Palletline has been an easy one to make. Every day our vehicles are travelling the length and breadth of the UK, and it makes sense to be able to offer that level of distribution to some of the smaller producers and manufacturers in our local area. It is important to us that we are able to help the local economy, and helping local businesses reach a wider audience is a great way of doing that.”
Palletline managing director Graham Leitch said: “Boughey Distribution is a leader in logistics with a great reputation both in Cheshire and throughout the UK. The company excels in the ambient food sector and works exceptionally hard to deliver a fantastic service to its customers meaning there is a real synergy in the cultures and philosophies of the two businesses. With excellent staff, vehicles, facilities, technology and the very highest operational standards, I have no doubt that Boughey will be an asset to our network of providers and I’m excited to have the company on board.”
