Mercedes-Benz Achieves James Nuttall Breakthrough
James Nuttall (Transport) is looking forward to low fuel and AdBlue consumption, coupled with highly competitive servicing costs, from its first Mercedes-Benz trucks for more than two decades.
The Rochdale-based operator has purchased a pair of 26-tonne New Actros 2532L rigids from Dealer Enza. Both have aerodynamic StreamSpace cabs and lifting rear axles with single tyres, while their curtainside bodies are by Lawrence David.
A general haulier and high-profile member of the Palletforce network, James Nuttall (Transport) provides streamlined distribution services on a round-the-clock basis to a broad customer base.
The company placed its order after a four-week trial of a Euro VI demonstration unit supplied by Enza. Managing Director James Nuttall recalls: “The demonstrator performed exactly as Mercedes-Benz and its distributor had promised it would.
“Fuel economy was as we’d been led to expect, and certainly favourable, the New Actros returning an average over the period of 11.6 mpg, and a weekly high of 12.4 mpg. What struck me particularly, though, was the AdBlue consumption, which was significantly lower than we’re used to seeing from our Euro V trucks.”
He continues: “We tried another manufacturer’s Euro VI vehicle shortly after the New Actros but decided to place the order with Mercedes-Benz because overall, once we’d factored in the Repair and Maintenance agreement, its package was more cost-effective over five years.”
James Nuttall (Transport) is a member of the Transport Association and Road Haulage Association. “This means that while we are dipping our toe with Euro VI for the first time, we had the opportunity to network with other operators, some of whom have all-Mercedes-Benz fleets and are already running New Actros at Euro VI,” says Mr Nuttall.
“I spoke to several fellow members about the Mercedes-Benz product and back-up, and their opinions were entirely positive.”
James Nuttall (Transport)’s fleet of more than 50 trucks is dominated by a Swedish brand – the company has operated Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the past, but not for more than 20 years.
Its New Actros are powered by state-of-the-art 235 kW (320 hp) straight-six engines driving through smooth-changing, eight-speed Mercedes PowerShift 3 automated transmissions, and will be inspected and serviced by the workshop team at Enza’s Trafford Park branch.
