Ford & Slater Apprentices Compete in Charity Truck-Pull

Apprentices from DAF dealer Ford & Slater are pushing themselves to the limit in the ultimate battle of strength, stamina and team work – a one-of-a-kind charity truck-pull race with the goal of raising £2,500 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

This is the second year Ford & Slater’s apprentices have supported Teenage Cancer Trust – a not-for-profit charitable organisation dedicated to providing care and support for young people living with cancer, and their families – following a 31-mile hike across the Peak District in 2017, where six apprentices succeeded in raising £2,000.

Following last year’s success, Ford & Slater Apprentice Coordinator Lee Sursham wanted to try something different, involving as many apprentices as possible. “We wanted something specific to Ford & Slater, to the transport industry and to our apprentices. What we came up with was a truck-pull,” explained Lee.

The charity truck-pull will take place from 12pm on Sunday, the 16th of September, at the Bruntingthorpe Airfield and proving ground where Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome have kindly donated their 1.5-mile runway for the event.

“Our apprentices will be split into two teams, each competing to pull a 7T DAF XF truck the length of Bruntingthorpe. The decision to stick with Teenage Cancer Trust for a second year was ultimately unanimous and I know both teams will work hard to raise as much as they can for this worthwhile cause,” Lee added.

Anyone who would like to make a donation to Teenage Cancer Trust in support of the apprenticeship truck-pull can do so via their Just Giving page, at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/apprenticetruckpull.

Ford & Slater will be sharing more fundraising opportunities and live updates on their dedicated apprentice Instagram page, at @fordslaterapprentice. Friends, family and visitors are invited to come along for the afternoon to show their support.
