Samsara (NYSE: IOT), the pioneer of the Connected Operations® Platform, today announced that Cadent, the UK’s largest gas distribution network and manager of the National Gas Emergency Service Line, has selected Samsara as its preferred technology partner for telematics and driver safety. Cadent will deploy the Samsara platform across its fleet of approximately 2,800 commercial vehicles to support strategic goals around digitalisation and driver road risk management.
As the essential utility responsible for owning, operating and maintaining the gas network serving 11 million homes and businesses across much of England, Cadent plays a vital role in keeping people safe. While its vehicles may not carry the flashing blue lights associated with the Police, Ambulance and Fire & Rescue services, its engineers are on call 24/7 and respond to reported gas leaks within an hour, making situations safe and protecting the communities they serve.
“Our selection of Samsara aligns very closely with our strategic goals,” said David Garner, Chief of Safety, Health, Engineering & Environment at Cadent. “For an essential service like ours, accurate vehicle tracking is a regulatory necessity, but our primary focus is safety. Crucially, Samsara’s technology empowers our engineers to take ownership of their own driving, moving the learning directly to the driver through in-cab alerts and the Driver App. Providing them with timely feedback and coaching on their driving behaviours.
The deployment includes Samsara’s advanced safety features – AI Dash Cams and in-cab coaching, to help manage Cadent’s occupational road risk. Colleague safety sits at the heart of Cadent’s Safe & Well programme, which is designed to ensure that every Cadent employee returns home safely at the end of each day. Open feedback has been pivotal in getting a solution in place that works for all and recognising the rollout as a meaningful step forward in addressing occupational driving — one of the most significant risks employees face in their daily roles.
“We are proud to be working with Cadent, an organisation whose mission is to deliver safe and reliable energy that is vital to the UK,” said Siamack Mirzaie, Area Vice President, Samsara. “Samsara is designed to provide the real-time visibility and ease-of-use that a mission-critical fleet requires. We are excited to support Cadent’s ambition to digitalise its operations, not only by enhancing driver safety but also by streamlining complex processes like defect reporting to bring huge benefits across the business.”
