FTA Announce Overall Driver of the Year 2017

Thomas Kent has been announced as the UK’s top driver in the logistics industry. Thomas has been named after a nationwide competition that has been organised by the Freight Transport Association has come to a close. The Association is the UK’s largest membership association in freight and logistics, and was therefore in the perfect position to hold the competition to find the best driver in this industry.

The winner of this award, Thomas Kent works for Samworth Brothers Supply Chain in Derby. The award was announced on the 29th November and saw Thomas Kent take the overall FTA Driver of the ear 2017 title, which can be added to his award collection which includes the FTA 44-tonne Driver of the Year accolade which he won in September.

Commenting on the competition, June Powell, the Director of Operations at the FTA has said that they have been overwhelmed at the standard displayed as well as the level and quality of professionalism shown by the UK’s logistics drivers. However, despite this Thomas has very deservedly won the top prize. The skill and knowledge that has been shown by Thomas Kent as well as his understanding of the rigours that has faced in today’s logistics industry are a credit to him and also to his employer and it is great that the FTA have been able to acknowledge and celebrate the effort put in by logistics drivers with this competition and award.

Kent managed to take the overall FTS Driver of the Year after registering the highest marks of the three different category winners. These categories were the 44 tonne, 18 tonne and Van Excellence driver. All of the different categories were assessed with the same criteria, making the selection of the overall Driver of the Year a simple and efficient process. Thomas Kent has been commended on the pride shown in his work, and this in turn is a testament to the support that has been shown by his employer, Samworth Brothers.
