InterCor European Project With Involvement of France

InterCor is a European project that is taking place with the involvement of France, the Netherlands, UK and Belgium. As part of the project there will be an upgrade of both new and existing Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems services, or C-ITS. The upgrades and tests that will occur will take place in specific areas in order to ensure that there are interoperability across different borders.

In the months ahead it is thought that there will be further tests carried out in all four of the EU member states involved in the project. This testing will take place in the form of the first open TESTFEST which is expected to begin in the Netherlands between the 3rd and 6th of July. The TESTFEST is the first to take place and will mainly involve the ITS-G5 services which has been co-organised by InterCor and the Dutch partners operating on the C-ITS Corridor.

Those that are involved with the TESTEST will be working to test the state of the art ITS services that are being produced in a real world environment. The testing has been planned to take place on the A16 motorway near to Dordrecht. This area of road has been selected in order to carry out the tests because there are a number of roadside units that are able to record and broadcast the information relevant for safety and and road works that are taking place. This ability to broadcast information means that their units that are installed in the vehicles of the participants can inform the driver of any potential hazards and traffic alerts.

The upgrades that are taking place as part of the international EU funded project are intended to validate the interoperability of the ITS equipment in different countries with the focus of enhancing the road safety across Europe. The InterCor project coordinator, Ronald Adams has said that the results of the assessments taking places in the TESTFEST will lead to the expansion of the InterCor project and updates to the requirement of the C-Roads Platform. The updates could also lead to the use of C-ITS services across Europe.
