Highways England Scheme at Tollbar End

Highways England Scheme at Tollbar End

The investment of £106 million by Highways England in to the improvement scheme at Tollbar End in Coventry has been opened. Highways England has been tasked with modernizing, maintaining and operating England’s motorways and major A roads around the country. The official opening, took place on the 16th March. The improvement scheme has completed in order to create free-flowing traffic in order to reduce the volume of traffic that use the Tollbar End roundabout. This work was carried out by providing a two lane dual carriageway underpass link as well as a larger layout. This design is focused on reducing congestion in this area.

As for motorists, the completion of the development means that those who are travelling on the A45 Stonebridge Highway and the A46 Coventry Eastern Bypass will now have a free-flow link underneath the Tollbar roundabout. The work also included making improvements on the roundabout above, increasing the size and leading to an improvement in the access for the existing routes. There has also been work to widen the existing A45 Stonebridge Highway. This road now becomes a three lane dual carriageway that is located between the new Tollbar roundabout and Stivichall junction. This widening has taken place in order to make the road safer as well as increase its capacity.

This area is a main hub within the Midlands road network. It is said that the investment scheme has already provided the benefit of smoother journeys on important routes between the north and south of the country. The underpass that has been created as part of the scheme has reduced congestion that was well known for being a bottleneck.

There has also been a new footbridge built by the entirely government-owned Highways England across the River Sowe. This new footbridge will accommodate a new footpath and cycle way. There are also new gantries on the A45 Stonebridge Highway and the A46 Kenilworth Bypass.
