Network Rail has made an announcement asking passengers in the Guildford area to check before they travel ahead of this weekend’s work. Work will be carried out over two full weekends and then two more Sundays in April and May. £800,000 is being invested in order to renew the important sections of track in order to make journeys in this area more reliable.

Guildford is ranked as one of the busiest stations in the South of England. The area had 8.2 million passengers using the rail network in 2015/2016. The lines through Guildford are used very frequently by services that connect Waterloo station to the south coast.

The orange army of Network Rail are planning on replacing key sections of the switches and crossings. In addition to this, the engineers will also be replacing more than 200 meters of track. The work will be taking place to the south of the train platforms with the intention on improving the reliability of the services for the passengers.

The upgrades will be taking place over the weekends of the 1^st and 2^nd of April, the 8^th and 9^th April, with further work on Sunday 3th April and Sunday 2st May. There will be replacement bus services in operation while the work is being carried out. However, South West Trains and Great Western Railway passengers are still advised to check their journey information before they travel.

There will also be follow up overnight work on the 3^rd April, 10^th April, 1^st May and 22^nd May. This overnight work will not impact any of the services. Work is being carried out at the weekend in order to minimize the disruption caused by the work as there are fewer trains running and a lower number of passengers during the weekend in comparison to during the week. This work is part of the Railway Upgrade Plan by Network Rail.
