In order to keep passenger up to date, Network Rail are offering a variety of different drop in event for people who wish to be more informed about the upgrades that are taking place on the Preston to Manchester line.
The residents of Lancashire and Greater Manchester are invited to drop in events that are set to take place over March and April. The events will have information about the work that will be carried out to electrify the line between Preston and Manchester.
The work is taking place as part of Network Rail’s investment of over £1 billion as part of their Great North Rail Project. The work taking place is becoming more intense as engineers work on upgrading and electrifying the rails between Manchester and Preston via Bolton. For safety reasons, some of the electrification work will be happening at night when there are no trains running. This means that there will be a reduced level of disruption to the services on offer by completing work at night. However, it could lead to disruption for nearby residents, as some of the work that will need to be carried out will include noisy pilling work. The end result of this work will be steel masts that are built to carry electric wires which will power greener and quieter electric trains. These new trains are expected to be running from December 2017.
The Drop in events will be held between 4pm and 7pm at the dates and places below: Wednesday 22nd March at The Hub@Buckshaw, Chorley; Thursday 23rd March St Joseph’s Parish Center, Chorley; Tuesday 28th March, Lostock Parish Centre, Bolton; Wednesday 29th March, Railway Club, Green Lane, Bolton; Monday 3rd April, St Thomas Church, Delamere Avenue, Manchester; Tuesday 4th April Farnworth Baptist Church, The Well, Trafford Street, Farnworth, Bolton.
