Network rail will be carrying out works to improve a footbridge at Long Eaton Station. As part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan, the works will be carried out between 21st April and Thursday 29th June. The project will see the temporary removal of the footbridge so during the works pedestrians and passengers are asked to either cross safely via the level crossing or to find an alternative route around the tracks.
The Railway Upgrade Plan is an investment plan by Network Rail that will involve a large investment in order to modernise that railways. The Railway Upgrade Plan will make up two thirds of the £40 billion spending priorities set out by Network Rail. This upgrade project will be the biggest modernisation project of the railways since the Victorian era. The Upgrades should provide more capacity and better facilities to improve passenger experience.
The improvements to the Long Eaton footbridge include taking it away to be cleaned, strengthened and then freshly painted. Network Rail also reminds people to adhere to the rules of the Level Crossing while the footbridge is not in place; and emphasizing that pedestrians should read and obey the instructions at the crossing. In order to be extra safe, Network Rail advises that pedestrians allow extra time for their journey during the time that the foot bridge cannot be used.
In order to carry out these works on the Station Street bridge, there will be several road closures. These closures will take place when the bridge is being removed and reinstated. The closures will be at 22:00 on Saturday the 29th April until 6:00 on Sunday 30th April and 22:00 on Wednesday the 21 June until 6:00 on Thursday the 22nd June.
To give the public more information about this work, Network Rail are held a public information event on Tuesday 14th March at Long Eaton Baptist Church. The Network Rail representative were at the event from 15:00 until 19:00 in order to answer any questions residents of the nearby area may have.
