FleetCheck is one of the leading fleet software and management specialists in the UK. The company is based in Malmesbury in Wiltshire and was established in 2006. FleetCheck provides a service for over 500 customers and deals with up to 50,000 vehicles offering a range of serviced from driver training to licence checking and fleet documentation.
FleetCheck also focuses on car and van safety check and has said that dealers who carry out their safety check on cars and vans before sale need to be more forthcoming with useful information. Apparently current checks tend to use traffic light systems or percentage wear indicators for rating the safety of the vehicles. These systems are perhaps too vague and impractical for vehicle safety ratings.
Most drivers will be familiar with one sheet checks usually given that contain information about tyre wear and break tests. These sheets are the type that will be given to drivers when they collect their vehicles after a service. The simple slip of paper is actually legally significant, as with fleet vehicles any problems noted on those summaries must be addressed by the fleet because of official Health and Safety Guidelines. However the information on said sheet of paper about any potential problems is limited. Suggesting when brake pads need replacing instead of just providing a percentage for the wear would be more helpful, but this could cause new problems as how quickly things wear out can be affected by a variety of road and driver actions.
It is suggested by FleetCheck that it wold be simple for manufacturers to provide more information or an estimate for a fail date or a perhaps more accurate mileage point for equipment to be replaced at. For Health and Safety reasons evaluating and assessing the vehicles using these measures will require the people conducting the service to use a worst case scenario estimate.
