Commuters to and from Bolton train station using the parking area to drop off or pick up ought to be made aware of the various alterations that will affect them in the next few weeks. On the 24th January, the parking area just by Orlando Street near the station will be sealed off to allow for the re-implementation of platform 5 of Bolton Station, which has been defunct since the 1990s. Mister Terry Strickland, speaking on behalf of Network Rail, intimated that the reinstitution of the platform will ultimately improve the journeys of commuters to and from the station in the long run.
As part of a scheme amounting to over 1 billion pounds to improve the conditions of stations and railways all over the Northern regions, the new platform will also help to pave the way for the future electrification of the railway line. As this is something that is being already implemented in parts of Scotland by Network and Scottish Rail, it is hoped that this investment and commitment to improving the journeys of train commuters will also spread across the Northern and central regions of the United Kingdom.
All of this is welcome news for Bolton Station, which has already received a sum total of 48 million pounds devoted to improving the state of the station. Collaborating with Transport for Greater Manchester and the local council, Mister Liam Sumpter of Northern Rail emphasizes the current commitment to improving the conditions of the station to make it a proud example of 21st Century craftsmanship. The funds devoted towards it will also pay for better lighting, an automatic gate system so that passengers are required to display their tickets to ensure that no passengers are trying to exploit the services provided, as well as an alternative to the Moor Lane bus services currently operating in and around Bolton Station at the moment.
