Firm Transports To New Premises With Lloyds Bank Funding
Bridgwater-based food transport specialist Nagel Langdons Ltd has capitalised on its growing Scottish operations and purchased a new storage and warehousing facility in Motherwell with the support of a £5.5million funding package from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.
Established in 1898 but operating as a transport company since 1955, the business delivers chilled and frozen food in its fleet of temperature controlled vehicles and trailers to customers across the UK and Europe.
With growing demand for its services and next day delivery capability in Scotland, the business quickly outgrew its rented warehouse in Shieldhall. With the support of the Lloyds Bank team in Taunton, the firm purchased a 10 acre site on the Eurocentral Business Park on the Glasgow to Edinburgh corridor.
The site includes a 54,000 sq.ft. ambient warehouse that is currently being converted into a temperature controlled storage facility, with a frozen chamber and a chilled cross docking area to store food pallets. There are also parking facilities for 100 large goods vehicles and a two-storey office block on site.
Nagel Langdons employs 1,080 people, with 50 staff based in Scotland. This number is expected to increase once work on the warehouse conversion is completed and the firm’s growth plans accelerate in the region.
Simon Holder, Chairman at Nagel Langdons Ltd, said: “The food industry is a fast paced sector that demands a reliable and easily accessible transportation service, which we pride ourselves on providing. This expansion was a necessary step to facilitate the growing demand from our Scottish clients, and once the work on the warehouse is completed we will be able to generate new local job opportunities.
“We have a long-term relationship with Lloyds Bank, and the team’s continued support and investment has helped us to achieve our expansion ambitions, particularly in the growth of our European network, which now sees us deliver to 16 countries on the continent.”
Mark Newman, Relationship Director at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “Nagel Langdons offers a specialist transportation service to an industry that relies on its products being delivered quickly to maintain quality control levels.
“The business has achieved significant success in the Scottish market, and quickly outgrew its rented premises. We are committed to supporting ambitious management teams, and this funding means that the firm now has a larger operation in what is a key area of growth for the business.”
