O’Donovan Waste Disposal has secured the coveted Safety award at the 2016 SHD Logistics Awards.

The awards were held last week in Birmingham during the International Materials Handling Exhibition, bringing together more than 500 professionals from the logistics industry to celebrate the best individuals, teams and businesses.

The award recognises O’Donovan’s work in leading the way with its safety initiatives; a business-wide commitment to excellence led from the top.

Spearheaded by Managing Director, Jacqueline O’Donovan, the company has invested a significant amount of time and resources into technological innovation, culture and safety training, continually setting new standards for fleet safety and best practice for other organisations across the industry to aspire to.

The award is a significant achievement for the family run O’Donovan firm, who fought of competition from some key players in the industry who have bigger fleets and a greater amount of resources, including British Gypsum, Eddie Stobart and Hermes.

O’Donovan has been a pioneer in fleet safety for a number of years, as one of the first companies to become a Construction Logistics and Cyclist Safety (CLOCS) champion and piloting new lorries in conjunction with vehicle manufacturers Mercedes, Volvo, MAN and DAF, including the Mercedes Benz Econic 4×2 skip loader 1830L which offers the driver an unparalleled view of vulnerable road users.

Along with the development of new technologies, O’Donovan retro-fits enhanced safety equipment to all its fleet as well as being the first company to purchase the Econic skip loaders, the first of their kind to be commercially put to work in the UK.

On receiving the award, Jacqueline O’Donovan, commented: “We pride ourselves on our exceptionally high standards of safety, training and technology and are honoured to be named winners of this award. We are delighted to be recognised for our focus and hard work in developing these areas in order to improve standards and promote best practice across the industry.”
