British oil developer, Millers Oils, is expanding its CV range to meet industry demands for low-viscosity, energy efficient oils. The advanced lubricant specialist has developed a 5w30 engine oil and is launching its Nanodrive® range into the CV market to help transport operators reduce overhead costs. The British oil developer’s award-winning nanotechnology oils help improve vehicle fuel economy and durability. The expansion of this range follows its success in the motorsport and automotive sectors.

The EE 5w30 utilises modern conventional additives to protect components and provide optimum fuel efficiency, helping meet industry demand for lower viscosity oils. It also has one of the largest list of OEM credentials, making it suitable for most modern vehicles.

Nanodrive® was originally developed for motorsport applications to help race teams release more power from the engine while maintaining component durability in this harsh, competitive environment. Millers Oils is now using this same technology to provide transport operators with a cost-effective improvement to fleet economy and maintenance.

“Oil accounts for 1% of company fleet operating costs, while fuel bills account for about 30%,” says Martyn Mann, Technical Director, Millers Oils. “Operators can save 2-3% on their fuel bills by spending a little more on energy efficient oils. A fleet running 20 vehicles with an average of 7MPG and 150,000 km per annum would see a saving of approximately £17,000 per annum on their fuel bill by switching to a more modern technology.”

Reducing oil viscosities to increase fuel economy has its benefits but it can also increase wear on components, increasing maintenance bills and reducing vehicle life. The nanotechnology in Millers Oils’ CV Nanodrive® range of 15w40 and 10w40 engine oils ensures that the oils deliver these efficiency benefits while protecting the engine and drivetrain system.

“The nanoparticles we use have some very special properties, making them ideal for lubricants that work in extreme conditions,” continues Mann. “The way the particles nest around each other, like the layers of an onion that are able to peel off under pressure, helps to provide a slippery, protective film over metal surfaces, reducing both friction and wear. By utilising this technology within our oils, we are able to supply operators with the fuel efficiency benefit of lower viscosity oils without the increased wear and reduced component life.”

Commercial vehicle and off-highway oils are now expected to work harder, by an industry demanding increased efficiency and longer service intervals. Nanodrive® helps operators protect their vehicles between services and has been proven to reduce friction in the engine by up to 59% and in the transmissions by up to 56%, providing a reduction in wear of up to 31% and 70% respectively.

The nanotechnology utilised in Nanodrive® reduces friction without compromising film strength; in turn reducing parasitic loses, fuel consumption and wear. This reduction in friction helps operators reduce fuel bills and retain durability in an environment that expects components to perform for extended periods.

“While the environments that commercial and motorsport vehicles operate in may be different, they face similar challenges in terms of powertrain efficiency and durability. Our nanotechnology oils provide the component protection and performance benefits that both sectors are looking for,” concludes Mann.

Millers Oils has also transferred over its oil analysis service from the motorsport and automotive sectors to the CV market. The service helps vehicle operators extend the drain periods of their lubricants, monitor the health of their vehicles and carry out predictive maintenance. The laboratory analysis of used samples identifies organic compounds, fuel dilution, oxidation of oil and metals in any wear debris. This helps to ensure customers are not wasting money through premature oil replacement or risking expensive damage to components by pushing lubricants beyond their lifetime.
