Monday the 30th was no doubt a disruptive day for railway networks all around the country, but Network Rail are particularly pleased to be able to express their gratitude towards the tolerant demeanor of travelers along the Lewisham route. This follows on from the time when a cargo train ran off the tracks not far from Lewisham, forcing passengers off later trains to have their planned journey s disrupted or cancelled. Of course, the accident itself necessitated vital repairs to the tracks along the line, which even with the extremely hard work of a dedicated force of workers took almost a week to complete. This amounted to over 50 meters of railway track that had to be repaired following the accident on Tuesday the 24th January when it happened.
The intense period of repair work itself not only required these 50 meters to be replaced, but also necessitated the moving of 30 tons worth of sand-based material that fell off the cargo vehicle off the railway line. This itself had to be done by hand by the workers and is undoubtedly one of the main reasons for the time it took to get the railway along that line finally fixed and ready to run services again as per usual. Mister Andy Derbyshire of Network Rail explained that whilst it was undoubtedly a disruptive six days for travelers along that route, everyone was as understanding of the situation as possible and wanted to express his gratitude that everyone was so understanding and accommodating during the repair period. He also wanted to voice his gratitude to the London Underground services and Southeastern Rail for their continued hard work with limited track resources and contracted workers laboring all day every day to rectify the problems.
All in all, Mister David Statham the MD of Southeastern wanted to remind affected customers that compensation schemes would be set up on the website for those that were affected.
