Unipart Moves To Google Apps To Drive International Growth
Google Enterprise today announced that Unipart, one of the UK’s largest manufacturing, logistics and consulting companies, will adopt its web-based collaboration and communication suite, Google Apps for Business. The move will play a key role in helping Unipart continue to grow its business globally.
Unipart is currently expanding its operations in India, China, Australia and the US by introducing its integrated business system, The Unipart Way, into a range of new clients in the retail, financial and automotive sectors. The Unipart Way delivers continuous improvement by engaging employees at every level of the business. The move to Google is expected to accelerate knowledge sharing and communication.
4,500 Unipart employees will have anytime, anywhere access to the wide range of online collaborative tools within Google Apps, including Google Docs, Gmail, Sites, Calendar, Google Talk and Google Drive. This is particularly important to Unipart with its growing international footprint and its product offerings that deliver face-to-face coaching and training using electronic media to deliver learning ‘in the moment’ anytime, anywhere in the world.
With Google’s instant messaging tool, Google Talk, and the online video meeting service, Google Hangouts, the workforce, operating in over 80 sites worldwide, now has the ability to share information and work together on global projects. Working in Google Docs, employees can be more productive through spending less time consolidating changes across multiple versions of the same document. Moving forward, Unipart also aims to use Google+ to create knowledge sharing communities.
The move to a cloud-based approach gives Unipart a scalable solution ideal for expanding into fast developing markets where people and technology need to be deployed quickly. The move also allows the business to make significant savings by removing server maintenance and the need for periodic investment in new or additional infrastructure or software upgrades.
“Google Apps is the perfect choice for our business as we continue to expand our operations in the UK and internationally and increase our mobile workforce. As well as being quick, easy and affordable to deploy in new markets, it will enable us to improve knowledge sharing and the way we work together on group projects,” explains Carl Powell, Group CIO at Unipart. “We’re also confident that, as well as being easily accessible from any location and any device; our information will be secure when stored in the cloud.”
Thomas Davies, Head of Google Enterprise UK, adds, “Today, people are coming to work expecting to be able to communicate and interact with one another using the tools they already have access to in their personal lives. It is encouraging to see an increasing number of global businesses such as Unipart taking steps to help their employees be flexible and mobile by making use of the breadth of collaborative features now available in Google Apps.”
